Restoration of Titian’s Assunta (2021–2022)
During the restoration of Titian’s Assunta at the Frari Church in Venice, Friederike von Rauch documented the process from within the scaffolding. Rather than presenting the entire masterpiece, her photographs focus on intimate details—layers, colors, and materials—revealing the complexity behind the work.
These images form the basis of von Rauch’s abstract montages. By decontextualizing, fragmenting, and recomposing the photographs, she creates abstract interpretations that offer a fresh perspective on both the restoration process and the artwork itself.
