COLLAGE

Alongside photography, collage has become an increasingly important part of von Rauch's practice.

Working both by hand and digitally, these works extend photography through reduction, fragmentation, and reconfiguration, creating new spatial and visual relationships.

DECONSTRUCTIONS (2021)

Deconstructions comprises a series of unique collages created from test prints produced during von Rauch's photographic practice. Printed on fine art paper, the sheets are cut apart and reassembled by hand into new compositions.

Through reduction, fragmentation, and recomposition, light, surface, and space are brought into new relationships. The material presence of the paper becomes as important as the photographic image itself.

Each collage is a unique work.

TITIAN (2021–2022)

Titian is a series of digital collages created from photographs made during the restoration of Titian's Assunta in the Frari Church in Venice. Working from the scaffolding, von Rauch was granted exceptional access to the painting.

The collages isolate, shift, and recombine details of the original work into autonomous compositions in which colour, light, and materiality become the primary subjects.
