Restoration of Titian’s Assunta (2021–2022)
During the restoration of Titian’s Assunta at the Frari Church in Venice, Friederike von Rauch documented the process from the scaffolding. Rather than presenting the entire masterpiece, her photographs focus on intimate details—layers, colors, materials—revealing the complexity behind the work.
These images form the basis of von Rauch’s abstract montages. By decontextualizing, fragmenting, and recomposing the photographs, she creates abstract interpretations that offer a fresh perspective on the restoration and the artwork itself.
